Men are from Mars.....and other stuff
Our first topic for tonight is "men are from mars". It's long been said that men are from some other planet. I tend to agree. How else can I explain the fact that there are people calling me that I haven't spoken to in months (in 2 cases, years). Maybe it's me. Maybe I have too much pride. I can't see myself calling up some guy that I might have spoken to once or twice a few months ago and saying "Hi. How are you doing? We haven't spoken in a couple months--- Oh, you don't remember me? We met at that sandwich place in Manhattan. Yeah yeah...that was me. Yeah...I know I said I was going to call about 4 months ago...so how are you doing?"
And they do it like it's no big deal. I went out with someone on one date about 2 years ago. It didn't go too well. We went our separate ways. But he still calls every 5 months or so. "Hey how's it going? Still single? Maybe we should go out again." So I've decided to oblige...maybe remind him of why we haven't dated in all this time (and get a free dinner/movie in the process).
Bachelor #2 says he's my soulmate....I just haven't realized it yet. Flattering; and if it were anyone else, it would indicate stalker tendencies. But he's cool people so I let him get away with it. Again, I've largely ignored him for the better part of 3 years. Secretly, I think that men (and some women too) like this abuse. We pine for the people who pay us little to no attention and curse at the ones who would bend over backwards for us.
I'm back on the soapbox
Although I'm not a real fan of the "hip hop movement" [has boys and men wearing oversized caps and t-shirts that could be dresses (just cinch the waist!)], I have to give P.Diddy his props for mobilizing the Black vote with his Citizens for Change organization. If there were sound effects, we'd have some applause right now. For those that didn't know, Prez Bush has declined several opportunities to address the Black community. Granted, BET doesn't represent all of the Black community; and if Prez thought that he didn't want to deal with the "BET generation", then he could have addressed the NAACP...but again he declined.
VOTE OR DIE!
P.S. Real World is on...I hope you're watching.
Dee's two cents:
I don't get it. Did he decline to address the black community specifically? Or was he busy? I know he has been very supportive of businesses owned by black women. So I'm thinking maybe it's coincidence he didn't address BET or NAACP? That is, if I understood your statments correctly.
Ahhhh, men. But they are so much fun aren't they?

Queen Bee's two cents:
Coincidence? I think not. Word on the street is that he was invited to BET twice and gave some lame excuse for not going. I'm not sure what exactly happened with the NAACP. All I know is that if I had anything to do with his public relations, I'd notice that he's skipped 3 major opportunities to connect with the Black vote. Whether it was accidental or intentional, it's not a good sign.
